Welcome to my Web site!
I have created this site to share details of the
restoration/modification of my 1967 Pontiac Firebird Convertible. I
purchased the car from a small Colorado junk yard in 1981, bumper towed it
back to Ohio with another '67 Firebird convertible and began my restoration.
After completely disassembling the car, cataloguing most of the parts,
having the body shell dipped and painting a few suspension parts, my
restoration was put on hold until last year, 2003. Waiting over 20
years was a good thing as I'm now in a position to do a better job and there
are so many new parts available.
 |
August of 2003 I moved this shell from where it sat for over 20 years.
I had not yet decided to restore or sell the car for parts at this time.
Unfortunately, I did not take more pictures to show the extensive floor,
trunk and quarter rot along with some prior damage and body shop
butchery. |

April 2004: My helpers - John & James This
photo was taken the day the car was able to roll again
after more than 20 years. The car is a highly optioned original 400, 4spd car, Tyrol blue with: power windows,
power disc brakes, tilt steering, AM/FM, fold down rear seat, deluxe interior,
wood sport wheel, hood tach, power top, remote drivers mirror, visor
mirrors, bright
pedal trim, console, custom option and 3.08 open rear. The original engine and
transmission were long gone by the time I bought it. It's
also has one of the first 100 V8 serial numbers! |
 |
I've owned this car for 25 years this month and December 10th,
2005 marks the first time it's moved under it's own power! I idled
it out of the garage (no throttle linkage or brakes) through the snow
and ran out of gas all on my first drive. Hopefully future drives
will go better. My original goal was a strict restoration, but the search for
"correct" parts drove me nuts. The current goal is a stock
appearing car with modern wheels and a performance drive train that can be driven and
shown. |

Saturday, June 6, 2006: The car was deemed roadable earlier in the
day. Later, the rain lets up just enough for me to take the first
drive. The low TKO 600 first gear, bald tires, wet pavement and
monstrous engine yielded a traction challenged combination. I made
it around the block three times before the rain came back. |
 |
November 10, 2006: The interior is not yet done and there are a
few other major items, but this is with the top on finally. It's a
Haartz cloth top and the picture doesn't do it justice. This is
the first good picture with the Boyd Two-Tones and Nitto 555s. I
should have more than enough time to finish the car over the winter -
famous last words. |
